Admission to graduate study is selective and based on a comprehensive review of each applicant’s academic background, professional experience, preparation for the field of study, and potential for success in advanced study. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, or an equivalent degree from an appropriately recognized international institution, prior to enrollment in a graduate program. Applicants may apply while their bachelor’s degree is in progress; however, degree conferral must be completed before the start of the intended term of enrollment. Students may submit an unofficial transcript during the admissions process but must provide an official transcript prior to enrollment.
Admissions decisions are made collaboratively by the graduate program and the Office of Graduate Admissions. Because graduate admissions requirements vary by discipline, degree level, accreditation requirements, licensure standards, and professional expectations, each graduate program establishes its own admissions criteria, required application materials, and prerequisite coursework, if any. These requirements are published on the applicable graduate program’s admissions or academic program page.
Depending on the program, admissions requirements may include, but are not limited to, possession of a baccalaureate degree, transcripts of previous educational records, minimum grade point average expectations, prerequisite coursework, evaluations by professors or professionals, nationally recognized measures of aptitude or academic achievement, interviews, or appropriate alternatives to interviews. Appropriate alternatives may include written statements, portfolios, auditions, recorded responses, professional experience reviews, or other program-approved assessments.
Applicants are responsible for reviewing the admissions requirements for their intended graduate program and submitting all required materials by the applicable deadline. Certain programs utilize centralized application services, including those in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Psychology (PsyD), and Physician Assistant Studies.
The University reserves the right to verify the authenticity of all application materials and to rescind an offer of admission if any information is found to be incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading. Applicants who are denied admission may reapply for a future term.
Admitted students may request to defer their enrollment for up to one year from the original term of admission. Students who do not enroll within this timeframe will be required to submit a new application for admission.
Graduate-Level International Student Admissions Policies
International applicants must submit official transcripts from all post-secondary colleges and universities attended. If transcripts are not issued in English, a course-by-course credential evaluation from a member organization of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) is required. Applicants to engineering programs must submit a credential evaluation completed by World Education Services (WES).
All international applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency for admission to undergraduate or graduate programs unless they are citizens of a TOEFL-exempt country or have successfully completed an approved English language proficiency program at the advanced level. This exemption does not apply to applicants to the School of Nursing.
Applicants may satisfy the English proficiency requirement by submitting one of the following:
- TOEFL iBT (Home or Paper Edition): Minimum overall score of 79
- Minimum speaking score: 19 (26 required for School of Nursing applicants)
- Minimum score of 17 in all other sections
- TOEFL Essentials: Minimum score of 8.5
- IELTS: Minimum overall band score of 6.5
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Minimum score of 58
- Duolingo English Test (DET): Minimum score of 110
- GTEC CBT: Minimum score of 1200
- MELAB: Minimum score of 77
- Oxford ELLT: Minimum score of 7
The School of Nursing requires applicants to meet the TOEFL iBT minimum overall score of 79, with a minimum speaking score of 26.
International students who require an F-1 visa must provide official documentation demonstrating sufficient financial resources to cover tuition, fees, and living expenses while studying in the United States. Students on an F-1 visa must also maintain full-time enrollment in accordance with federal regulations.
Transfer Credit
Transfer of graduate credit from another accredited institution may be considered on a limited basis and is not commonly granted. In general, a maximum of nine (9) graduate credits may be eligible for transfer, subject to program approval. Courses must be comparable in content and rigor to those offered by the University and must typically have been completed with a grade of “C” or better. Final determination of transfer credit acceptance is made by the academic program in accordance with institutional policies.
Application Deadlines and Entry Terms
Graduate programs operate under varying admissions timelines and entry terms. Some programs offer rolling admission with multiple start terms throughout the year, while others follow a cohort model with fixed application opening dates and deadlines. Applicants are encouraged to review the specific requirements and timelines for their program of interest, as deadlines and entry terms vary by program and may impact admission and enrollment eligibility.
Enrollment Deposit
To confirm enrollment, admitted students are required to submit a non-refundable enrollment deposit. Deposit amounts vary by program and typically range from $100 to $500. The deposit due date will be specified in the official admission letter.
The University is committed to equal opportunity in its admissions process and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law. All admissions decisions are made in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
