ENGL 326 - Languages and Cultures 3 Credit(s)
An interdisciplinary approach to the study of languages as they reflect cultures. Focus is on cultural factors which influence the communication process. Topics include linguistic analysis of English sounds, structures, and meanings; contrastive analysis of English and several other languages; contrastive analysis of several cultures; and consideration of differences in non-verbal language across cultures. Investigation of sociolinguistic implications of intercultural communication. Satisfies a 300-level English elective for majors and minors or a humanities general education requirement for non-majors.
