The undergraduate research experience is intended to provide an opportunity for students to participate in an independent, investigative research project as part of the requirements for the bachelor of science or bachelor of arts degrees in biology.  The students carry out novel laboratory or field research in the biological sciences in close collaboration with a faculty mentor.  Pedagogical projects will be considered, but require departmental approval.  A written report and a public presentation (preferably on Student Projects Day) are required for completion of the course for upper level biology elective credit.  Three hours of laboratory or field work are required per semester hour.  The program requires a minimum of 3 credit hours to count as one upper division biology elective.
Prerequisite(s): BIOL 299 , minimum GPA 2.3, and permission of instructor
