SSCI 120 - Engaged Citizenship

This course employs a cross-disciplinary approach to examine attributes of engaged citizenship in an American and global context. Featuring collaborating faculty members from a range of disciplines at Widener, the course explores variations in citizenship norms and ideals over time and across numerous cultural perspectives. Students explore a range of societal challenges that need attention, but often divide us politically. examination of these societal challenges focus on the consequences of the problems, the nature of the dispute over how to most effectively address the problems and discussion of how individuals might take action to alleviate these challenges. Students also work to hone their skills for effective civil discourse and political activism directed toward enacting meaningful and positive change in specified policy areas.
