ME 678 - Mechanics of Composite Materials

This course is an introduction to the mechanics of composite materials. The basic concepts of composite materials, their application, micromechanical and macromechanical behavior of a laminae and macromechanical behavior of a laminate are discussed. The principles of stiffness and strength of uni- and multi-directional composite laminates are covered. Mechanical, thermal and hygroscopic stresses, and interlaminar stresses and damage growth are discussed.
