ANTH 255 - Race and Racism 3 Credit(s)
This course examines how and why modern humans have come to classify one another by race. Students will learn the biological basis for the traits we use to define race, such as skin color, hair texture, eye color, nose shape, and stature. The course will then explore the ways that different societies have used race to determine how rights, privileges, and opportunities will be distributed. Students will compare the formation of the US racial hierarchy with those of other countries, past and present. Prerequisite(s): No prerequisite.
