MATH 325 - History and Philosophy of Mathematics 4 Credit(s)
This course traces the development of mathematical ideas. Historical details form the course’s foundation, but the emphasis is on the changing face of mathematics in relation to different opinions about the nature of mathematics. The role of logic, formalization, experimentation, applications, examples, analogy, and motivation in mathematics are probed. The contributions of different societies and groups are explored. Prerequisite(s): MATH 241 or MATH 242 .
