This course acquaints students with the major ideas and monuments of medieval art, beginning with the Early Christian period and progressing through the Late Gothic. Through a study of the art and architecture of this period, students explore the ways that religion, philosophy, and commerce helped to shape the material culture of this important part of the history of the Western world.
