SOC 225 - Unions, Labor, and Society

Upon graduation, many Widener students will be employed in sectors of the economy in which unions play a significant role in determining wages, hours, and working conditions. This is especially true of the many students who will enter occupations in criminal justice, education, health care, and government services. This course examines the history, role, and function of labor unions in American society. It provides an overview of the development and growth of the labor movement, examines the process of collective bargaining and contract administration, and explores the current state of the labor movement. By the conclusion of the course, students are better prepared to enter into a unionized profession.
