As the human population continues to grow, the effects of humans on the world’s oceans becomes more important. This course concentrates on the study of the physical and chemical aspects of the world’s oceans. It explores the physical nature of the coastal and deep oceans and the oceans’ interactions with the atmosphere. It also includes a study of the chemical and physical characteristics of seawater, global ocean circulation, and marine ecology and biology. The importance of the ocean to humans for transportation, food, natural resources, and recreation is emphasized along with human influences on the ocean, such as marine pollution. 3 hours lecture.
