HIST 345 - Global Cold War (D) (W) 3 Credit(s)
The Cold War had a profound impact on people and historical developments outside of the United States and the Soviet Union. This course explores the history of the Cold War through the lens of the people and nations, often newly independent, whose lives and politics were influenced by the conflicts in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. Topics include the Bandung Conference and the Non-Aligned Movement, the Cuban Revolution, the Congo Crisis, and the war in Vietnam. Readings and discussions highlight how the global forces of the Cold War affected the history of different regions and nation-states, as well as the choices of individuals, while also exploring how these states and individuals in turn shaped the history of the global Cold War.
