POLS 262 - Gender, Women and War 3 Credit(s)
This course will explore the gendered frames and norms through which we understand power. Specifically, we will examine these gendered forms of power in the context of conflict and war. We will take an inclusive approach and engage with voices and perspectives often marginalized in political discourses. We will also seek to explore critical approaches, from queer theory, to feminist, postcolonial, and poststructural approaches. I encourage all students to engage with the course materials, and examine their own perspectives, lenses, biases. What voice can individuals lend to the stories we tell? How can we improve our representation of societies, and better understand the ways in which power enables and constrains our understanding of, and our role in, the world?
