BIOL 299 - Research Methods and Statistics (W)

This course provides students with sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge to plan, conduct, evaluate, and present faculty-directed original research. Topics include the historical and philosophical development of scientific research; introduction to the scientific method; writing a research proposal; selection of a research arena; qualitative and quantitative observations; sampling techniques; collecting, recording, summarizing, statistically analyzing, and graphically presenting data; bibliographic searching techniques; oral presentation of research; and writing a research paper. The laboratory portion is dedicated to statistical methods and their application. 3 hours laboratory. 3 hours lecture.
