CHEM 255 - Organic Chemistry I

This is the first semester of a two-semester introductory organic chemistry sequence for science, engineering and pre-med programs. The course provides an introduction to the basic principles of the chemistry of carbon compounds and green organic chemistry. The chemistry of a number of functional groups is examined, with emphasis on nomenclature, structure-reactivity correlations, stereochemistry, conformational analysis, reaction mechanisms, and use of greener reagents in synthesis.
