ENVR 172 - Principles of Sustainability Science 3 Credit(s)
This course addresses the cultivation, integration, and application of knowledge about our planetary environment from a dimension that considers the dynamics of human-centered environmental activity and systems. This approach is taken to facilitate the evaluation and implementation of essential interventions that not only promote sustainability but also help arrest conditions that we as a global society must resolve over the next several decades. Specific topic areas include scientific and systems thinking, global climate change, human population growth, sustainable agriculture, ecological footprint analysis, environmental ethics, biological diversity and conservation, solid waste recycling, natural capital and services provided by ecosystems, ecological economics and globalization, alternative energy, green transportation and building design, sustainable architecture, environmental health, and community-based environmental literacy. In addition to the above, this course requires that students engage in real-world problem solving activities and student presentations. 3 hours lecture. Prerequisite(s): No Prerequisites.
