Negotiation skills are essential to career advancement. Students are more likely to score attractive compensation packages, desired promotions, and choice job assignments if they are effective negotiators. Negotiations require understanding complex decision-making environments. Skillful negotiators understand the importance of relationships among those involved, knowledge of desired outcomes or goals, power differentials among those involved, and strategies for successfully concluding negotiations.
