**ED 106 is an international-travel, service-learning course that is offered every spring semester. This course is an elective that students can add to any spring semester.
† English Literature requirement (for PDE): ENGL 131-135, 335-363, 365-376
All students must have criminal record checks, child abuse clearances, FBI fingerprints, and a Castle Branch account prior to the first class. Failure to have these records will result in a drop from the registration for this class and its accompanying field experience.
Education students must receive a grade of C (2.0) or better in all Education classes and MATH 111 and MATH 112 . Any grade below a C will result in the need to retake the course. Students must have a 3.0 overall GPA and pass PAPA or CORE for admission into the Teacher Certification Program.
For ED 100-level and 200-level courses, students participate in field experience stages 1 and 2 as defined by the Pennsylvania State Department of Education. Students must have required clearances on file in the Office of Certification before entering the field experience placement. Candidates work with groups of students in school or in after-school settings under the supervision of a certified teacher.
For ED 300-level and 400-level courses, students participate in field experience stage 3 as defined by the Pennsylvania State Department of Education. Students must have required clearances on file in the Office of Certification before entering the field experience placement. Candidates teach groups of students in school or in after-school settings under the supervision of a certified teacher. For this phase of clinical (field) experience, candidates will have been admitted to the teacher certification program and have taken at least one methods course but will not be in full control of the class.
Due to changes by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, this ladder is a guide for this program. The academic advisor would communicate changes that could occur.
