Students must already hold a Level 1 Instructional Certificate or be in the process of completing a Level 1 Instructional Certificate, as the Pennsylvania Department of Education does not consider Special Education Pre-K-8 as a standalone certificate.

Students without previous coursework in foundations/introductions to special eduction need to take ED 5500 in their first semester.

Students without coursework in teaching English Language learners need to take ED 624 .

Students without coursework in collaboration need to take ED 6600 .

For students pursuing this certification, more than 30 hours may be required.
