The African and African-American Studies minor offers an interdisciplinary approach to explore the histories, cultures, and experiences of African descended peoples. Students in this minor will be able to:

Demonstrate an awareness of the history of African and African-American peoples.
Critically engage with one or more elements of African diasporic cultures.
Demonstrate a critical analysis of institutions in Africa or the Americas that are shaped by and contribute to views on race.
Articulate and evaluate a variety of theoretical viewpoints on race and how race intersects with other factors such as gender, class, ethnicity, sexuality, and nationality.

Electives (12 Credits)*

Complete Four (4) AFAS Approved Elective Courses 12 Credit(s)

Elective Specifications:

A minimum of one course must be selected from Humanities
A minimum of one course must be selected from Social Sciences
At least two (2) courses are required at the upper-division level (300/400)
No more than two (2) courses can come from a single department

Total Credits: 15
