Legal Studies, Paralegal Certificate


24 semester hours of credit required

This program provides specialty instruction for students already holding 60 college credits. The program focuses on legal research and writing, the mechanics of the civil litigation process, and various specialized areas of practice such as probate, litigation, and business organizations.

Paralegal Program Objectives

  • Provide opportunity for students to receive applicable training, practical skills, and necessary education to effectively contribute to the legal environment.
  • Prepare students to become an integral part of the legal team.
  • Enhance students’ understanding of their ethical responsibility and role under the supervision of attorneys.
  • Provide students with an understanding of the U.S. legal system and sources of law.
  • Teach students active listening skills and effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Provide students with extensive instruction in legal research and technology offerings, including the use of electronic legal research databases.
