This course focuses on various elements of the multifaceted and dynamic issue of global terrorism and counterterrorism. The course begins with the difficult question of defining terrorism, as well as its causes and motivations from individual and state/society perspectives. The course covers various elements of terrorism, such as global vs. domestic terrorism, the role of ethnicity and religion, the financing and organizing of groups, and tactics of terrorism. Finally, the course turns to a focus on strategies of counterterrorism and countering violent extremism (CVE).
