CHEM 461 - Advanced Synthesis and Spectroscopy 1 Credit(s)
This course focuses on advanced synthesis and spectroscopic techniques. Applications of NMR, mass spectrometry, and Fourier Transform Infrared are studied. Advanced synthesis methods such as enantioselective Aldol reactions and Diels-Alder reactions, among others, will be discussed. Special emphasis is placed on understanding the theoretical basis of these instruments, operational techniques, the use of specialized methods to solve specific chemical problems, and the interpretation of spectral information. CHEM 461 is offered only in the fall of even-numbered years. Students should work with their academic advisors to make sure prerequisite courses have been completed. 1 lecture hour. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 366 or permission of the instructor.Corequisite(s): CHEM 463 .
