CHEM 463 - Advanced Synthesis and Spectroscopy Laboratory (W) 2 Credit(s)
Students design and carry out a multistep chemical synthesis and use advanced spectroscopic techniques to follow the progress of the synthesis. This requires understanding the theoretical basis for NMR, Mass Spectrometry, and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy. Techniques include electron ionization, chemical ionization, and high resolution mass spectrometry; H-1, C-13, DEPT, COSY, HETCOR, and other NMR experiments. CHEM 463 is offered only in the fall of even-numbered years. Students should work with their academic advisors to make sure prerequisite courses have been completed. 6 laboratory hours. Corequisite(s): CHEM 461
