Purpose

The healthcare industry is one of the largest sectors of the U.S. economy. It is also under significant pressure to contain costs, deliver better outcomes and improve access to care for a diverse and aging population. Healthcare organizations need competent managers who are skilled at leading a diverse professional workforce, positioning their organization for success in a highly competitive market, and designing systems to deliver cost-effective care.

The Healthcare Management Certificate is a four-course (12 credit) customizable program that enables students to develop a set of skills that is appropriate to their role in the healthcare industry, their job needs, and their career aspirations.  Early careerists may opt for courses that provide a better understanding of the healthcare system, the economics of health care, and the management of people and organizations. Students with significant experience in the healthcare industry may choose to update their skills or develop specific competencies with courses related to using big data to drive results, identifying and managing costs, redesigning processes to deliver outcome improvements, and negotiating effectively with key stakeholders. Students work closely with our Program Advisor to choose courses that best meet their unique needs.

Transfer of Credit

Courses taught in the certificate program are equivalent to their counterparts offered in the MBA-HCM program. Academic credit earned in the certificate program is fully transferable to the MBA in Healthcare Management (MBA-HCM) program, so students can opt to pursue this master’s degree at a later date. Also, completion of the HCM certificate program with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above may waive the GMAT for admission to the MBA-HCM program.
