NURS 606 - Clinical Decision Making and Diagnostic Reasoning Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner II 6 Credit(s)
This course provides the adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AGACNP) student the opportunity to incorporate strategies of health promotion, health maintenance, disease prevention, cultural competence, ethics, and advanced technology into care of acutely ill, complex and unstable surgical patients across the adult lifespan including adolescents, adults, older adults, and the frail elderly. The second of three clinical courses, concepts of acute management of surgical conditions are introduced including pre-operative risk stratification. Building on NURS 605 , weekly seminars focus on diagnostic reasoning, current evidence, management, and coordination of care for surgical patients, many of whom have complex medical co-morbidities. The practicum provides 224 supervised clinical practice hours for the AGACNP student to further develop all aspects of the NP role with focus on the provision of quality, safe, and cost-effective initiatives for surgical patients.
