ENGL 357 - Rise of the British Novel 3 Credit(s)
A study of the rise of the novel in Great Britain from the 18th century to the 20th century, considering the change in the novel’s cultural status during this time and its increasing popularity and social relevance. The course takes various critical approaches to novels by such authors as Burney, Austen, the Brontës, Gaskell, Dickens, George Eliot, Hardy, and others. Satisfies a humanities general education requirement for nonmajors.
