PHIL 380 - Philosophy of Art

An examination of fundamental philosophical questions about art. What is art? Are artistic standards objective? What is the significance of art? Problems and examples from painting, sculpture, literature, music, poetry, and architecture are discussed. Some familiarity with at least one of the arts is necessary. Given spring semester. Students may not receive credit for both PHIL 380 and PHIL 381 .
