NURS 607 - Clinical Decision Making and Diagnostic Reasoning Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner III 6 Credit(s)
This course provides the adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AGACNP) student the opportunity to incorporate strategies of health promotion, health maintenance, disease prevention, cultural competence, ethics, and advanced technology into care of complex and unstable patients requiring intensive care across the adult lifespan including adolescents, adults, older adults, and the frail elderly. The third and final clinical course, concepts of acute management of critical conditions are introduced including hemodynamic monitoring, initiating resuscitative measures for hemodynamic stability, management of airway and decision on intensifying or weaning patients based on clinical status. Building on NURS 605 and NURS 606 , weekly seminars focus on diagnostic reasoning, current evidence, management, and coordination of care for critically ill patients, many of whom have complex medical and surgical co-morbidities. Seminars include critical analysis of student case presentations. The practicum provides 224 supervised clinical practice hours and 16 simulation hours for the AGACNP student to demonstrate entry-level competencies of the AGACNP role.
