BIOL 319 - Principles of Microbiology 4 Credit(s)
A lecture and laboratory course in microbiology for biology majors and premedical students. The classification, structure, function, and metabolism of the major groups of microorganisms including prokaryotes, eukaryotes, archaebacteria, and viruses are discussed. The course places special emphasis on the relationship between microorganisms and man. Topics include host parasite relationships, the immune system, and the role of microorganisms in human diseases. Fulfills one cell and molecular biology elective. 3 hours laboratory. 3 hours lecture. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 262 and CHEM 255 /CHEM 257 . Credit may be obtained for only one of the following courses: BIOL 219 or BIOL 319.
